If you love to spend your time outdoors, whether it’s entertaining guests and family with a barbeque or just relaxing and reading a book while soaking up some vitamin D, it’s made even more pleasurable with some comfy outdoor seating.
Adirondack chairs are a popular choice in the outdoor furniture market as they present a good balance between style, comfort, and practicality. Great to look at, solidly built, and purpose-built for outdoor use, so you can leave them outside throughout the warmer seasons when they’re put to use.
Oversized Adirondack chairs are designed to be even more comfortable as they offer a roomier recline. We came across one of these chairs from Polywood and reviewed it here for you to see if it can match up to your expectations and needs.
Polywood Classic Oversized Adirondack Chair
Polywood was the first company ever to manufacture outdoor furniture from recycled plastics. Established in 1990, they continue to contribute high quality, durable, recycled furniture pieces to help create spaces where friends and family can gather, rest, and connect.
Who Is This Product For?
Generally speaking, huge Adirondack chairs can be enjoyed by anyone and everyone. Some people may find traditional Adirondack chairs to be a bit on the small side; in which case, oversized Adirondack chairs are a must!
Although generally used and built for outdoor living, these chairs could also be used inside the home, depending on your decor. These chairs are also quite low to the ground so those who struggle to get up again, after sitting, may want to give these kinds of chairs a wide berth, but if you can make it down to their level, it sure is worth it.
What’s Included?
When you receive your order, you will get the chair in several pieces along with the assembly instructions. The instructions are relatively easy to follow but if you prefer, you can pay extra and purchase the chair with expert assembly included so that someone will come to your home to assemble the chair for you.
Overview of Features
This oversized chair would make a great addition to any home and garden setup. The standout features for us are:
- Visual Appeal
As one of the classically designed oversized Adirondack chairs, this chair is great to look at. It’s soft, curved edges help it blend in with its surroundings.
This chair is available in a fantastic range of 12 different fade-resistant colors to suit everyone’s tastes, from vibrant yellow, orange, and red, to more muted and natural wood color options like slate gray, teak, and mahogany.
- Comfort
The seat reclines backward into the curved back of the chair, creating a nice relaxed position to sit in. Pair that with the generous proportions and extra-wide seat slats and you have yourself a really comfortable seat, no matter what size you are.
The only problem is, once you sit down, you won’t want to get up again, and those that struggle with mobility will find it especially hard to stand up again from the low, reclined seat.
- Eco-Friendliness
We love the fact that this seat is made from recycled milk jugs and detergent bottles! The Polywood “lumber” material is a proprietary blend of plastics, turning our waste into something beautiful and usable.
You get the wooden chair look without the possibility of splinters. Also, no trees died in the making of this chair.
- Maintenance and Built
This chair isn’t the cheapest you will find on the market but it is solidly built and will surely last for years and years to come, as the 20-year residential warranty assures. The Polywood material isn’t just environmentally conscious, it’s also hard-wearing and resistant to all types of weather and corrosive substances such as oil, salt, and other environmental stresses.
Best of all, you don’t need to spend hours on maintenance as Polywood lumber doesn’t splinter, crack, chip, peel, or rot.
How to Get the Most Out of It
It’s not hard to get the most out of this chair since it requires almost zero maintenance and comes with a 20-year warranty should something go wrong. Although the colors are fade-resistant, you should store the chair away or cover it when not in regular use so that the color stays vibrant for longer. As it folds away for easy storage, you can also help maintain its quality by putting it away in a garage or shed over winter.
Alternative
If you don’t want or need your outdoor furniture to be oversized, then you will be better off looking at the Polywood Classic Outdoor Adirondack Chair. It carries a lower and more accessible price and features the same beautiful classic design as the oversized version.
The curved back, proprietary Polywood “lumber”, and this time it comes in 14 great colors to choose from. It looks tiny in comparison to the other chair and definitely doesn’t offer quite the same level of comfort. Nonetheless, once we got used to looking at the smaller sized chairs again, we can see it’s actually a regular-sized chair and it’s more comfortable than most wooden or plastic garden furniture items.
Conclusion
These chairs are both stunning in design and quality and we’re a big fan of the recycled Polywood material they’re made from. If we were to choose our favorite, then we have to go for the first chair we looked at. Oversized Adirondack chairs are just so luxurious and comfortable!
You could even go so far as to say that this chair is perhaps a bit too comfortable for social occasions! It’s perfectly dreamy if you want to curl up with a good book or blanket under a clear night sky. It’s also perfect if your proportions are a little or a lot larger than average and you are looking for a comfortable, relaxing chair that accommodates your size more generously.
With a 20-year warranty, we think you can easily justify the cost by considering the many years of enjoyment you’ll get from it, without having to waste a moment of them in sanding, repainting and restaining, to maintain their integrity and looks.
